About Japan Muslim Education Trust (JMET)

The Japan Muslim Education Trust (JMET) is a non-profit organization (NPO) established to support the development of Muslim education and the broader Muslim community in Japan.

JMET works to create an educational environment in which Muslim children can receive a high-quality, modern, and internationally oriented education while remaining firmly grounded in their Islamic faith, identity, and values.

Our long-term aspiration is to develop a strong and comprehensive Islamic international school that prepares children not only for academic success, but also for meaningful, responsible, and principled lives in Japan and the wider world.

Our Islamic Foundation

JMET’s educational work is rooted in the Qur’an and Sunnah, in accordance with the mainstream tradition of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama’ah.

We seek to nurture an understanding of Islam that is grounded in authentic knowledge, sound character, balance, wisdom, and respect.

We recognize and respect the established Sunni scholarly tradition and legitimate differences of opinion within it. Our aim is to provide students with a strong Islamic foundation while cultivating unity, good manners, mutual respect, and an appreciation for the diversity of the Muslim Ummah.

Islamic education, in our understanding, is not limited to learning religious information. It involves nurturing the whole person — developing faith, worship, knowledge, character, responsibility, and a sense of purpose.

What We Hope for Our Children

Through the schools and educational initiatives supported by JMET, we aspire for our children:

to develop a strong relationship with Allah and a confident Muslim identity;
to grow into responsible, knowledgeable, and morally upright individuals;
to develop excellent character, discipline, compassion, and a sense of responsibility toward others;
to receive a modern, international, and high-quality education, with English as an important language of learning;
to develop strong academic foundations and the skills needed for higher education and future professional life;
to gain a meaningful understanding of the Japanese language, culture, and society, and participate positively in the country in which they live;
to learn the Qur’an and develop a lasting connection with it;
to study Arabic and gain greater access to the language of the Qur’an and Islamic scholarship;
to learn Islam in a way that influences their worship, manners, decisions, and everyday lives;
to develop critical thinking, curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of beneficial knowledge;
to understand their responsibilities toward their families, communities, and wider society; and
to use their knowledge, abilities, and opportunities to contribute positively to Japan, the Muslim community, and humanity at large.

Education for This Life and the Next

JMET believes that academic excellence and Islamic development should not be treated as two separate goals.

Children should be equipped to succeed in contemporary society while understanding who they are, what they believe, and what responsibilities they carry.

We therefore seek an educational approach that brings together:

Faith, Knowledge, Character, and Responsibility.

Students should be encouraged to pursue excellence in languages, mathematics, science, technology, and other fields of knowledge while developing an Islamic worldview, moral awareness, and a strong sense of accountability before Allah.

Our hope is to nurture young Muslims who can confidently engage with the modern world without losing sight of their faith or the Hereafter.

Growing and Contributing in Japan

As a Muslim educational organization in Japan, JMET places particular importance on helping children understand and engage constructively with Japanese society.

We want students to develop strong communication skills, respect for others, awareness of their surroundings, and an appreciation of the positive values found within Japanese society, while maintaining confidence in their Islamic principles and identity.

We believe Muslim children should be prepared to become active, trustworthy, and beneficial members of society, contributing through their knowledge, professions, character, and service to others.

Tokyo IQRA International School

In 2026, Tokyo IQRA International School (TIIS) came under the management of the Japan Muslim Education Trust (JMET), marking an important new stage in the school’s development and in JMET’s educational mission.

TIIS has served Muslim families in Tokyo since 2014, providing Islamic and international education to children from diverse cultural and national backgrounds.

Building upon this foundation, JMET is committed to strengthening the school and developing it for the next generation.

Our priorities include:

continuously improving the quality of teaching and learning;
strengthening Islamic education and tarbiyah;
developing a coherent and high-quality academic curriculum;
investing in teacher development and educational leadership;
improving student support and pastoral care;
strengthening cooperation between parents, teachers, and the wider Muslim community;
developing appropriate educational facilities and resources; and
establishing sustainable systems that will allow Islamic education in Japan to grow for generations to come.

Looking to the Future

The establishment of strong Islamic educational institutions requires patience, cooperation, professionalism, and a long-term vision.

JMET therefore sees its responsibility not merely as operating a school today, but as building an educational foundation for future generations of Muslims in Japan.

We hope, by the permission of Allah, to develop institutions that combine authentic Islamic education, strong character formation, and academic excellence — institutions from which students emerge confident in their faith, serious about knowledge, and prepared to benefit the communities and societies in which they live.

We pray that Allah places barakah in this effort and allows it to become a lasting source of benefit for Muslim families in Japan and for generations to come.
